Black Tourmaline Products
Black Tourmaline, also known as Schorl, is one of the most popular stones used in spiritual practice and protection against negative energy. Black Tourmaline is recommended for anyone working or living in uncomfortable situations and encourages optimistic attitudes as well as good luck and happiness.
Global Mining Sites
Tourmalines of all kinds can be found on every continent on earth. Crystal forms of these stones are still very rare and sometimes can be extremely expensive. While the black variety of Tourmaline is fairly common, some of the other types of tourmaline are not so easy to obtain and may even be called rare stones.
Black Tourmaline has been found in a large number of locations, including Pakistan, Australia, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Africa and the USA.
History
Tourmalines have been used and traded since ancient times. A statue of Alexander the Great, found and believed to be carved in India has been dated back to the second or third century B.C.
Tourmalines had became a very popular fashion stone only about 150 years ago. In 1876, George Kunz sold a Green Tourmaline gem originating in Maine to what is now known as Tiffany and Co.
Appearance
The structure and look of natural pieces of tourmaline are the same, regardless of the colour. This relates to the presence of vertical striations, ridges or furrows on the stones, and this is one way to identify Black Tourmaline in the natural form.
